Rocky Mountain News
Photographer: Neil Corman

On Friday February 27, 2009 the Rocky Mountain News published their final edition. The News has been a part of Denver for almost as long as Denver was a city and this final edition marked the end of an era. The final edition which I purchased was placed on the front porch to my house as this is how many people received the paper for many years. Denver is now a one newspaper town, and it will be a different landscape for print news.

Union Station Snow
Photographer: Neil Corman

A spring storm is not uncommon in Denver and as most people left work to get home prior to the bulk of the snow fall, I headed towards Union Station to photograph the accumulating wet snow. The challenge in this image was the wind as my camera faced in a northern direction. With the wind howling, the vertical snow would start to build up on the lens which forced me to turn the camera and clean it after an image or two was captured. After nearly an hour in the conditions I ended up calling it a night and left to head home and thaw out.

Aircraft Departing
Photographer: Neil Corman

A single aircraft departs and begins an easterly turn on a cool December evening south of Denver International Airport. With some high clouds in the sky, the light from the airport illuminates the bottoms to provide contrast. This image is a 45 second exposure, from about four miles south of the airport. The solid white lines are the landing lights, while the dots on the path is the beacon light.

Winter in Washington Park
Photographer: Neil Corman

In early January 2009 snow fell overnight leaving a nice winter scene. Seeing the snow start to fall on Saturday evening, I planned to wake up early to get out to Washington Park prior to sunrise and see how it had been transformed. It was quiet in the park and as I headed to a tree which I found almost a year ago a slight chill was present but the beauty of the snow covered surroundings quickly made it go away. I photographed this tree once again from the original position and prior to heading elsewhere in the park I decided to try a different view of the tree from what I had photographed before providing the image Winter in Washington Park.

Snowy May Day
Photographer: Neil Corman

Along the Front Range it is not uncommon to get a late season snowfall and as I watched the snow fall from my office window on May 1st I grabbed my camera and headed towards the park. My initial plan was to photograph at the south end of Washington Park, but as I passed by the lake and noticed the steam rising the plan quickly changed. I photographed around the lake and after almost completing a loop found this tree. By this time the snow had started to turn to rain letting the grass of spring show through the wet snow.

Coors Field Seats
Photographer: Neil Corman

Just prior to the start of a Colorado Rockies game in the fall of 2009 the late afternoon sunlight was noticed on the upper deck cup holders. With a mobile phone a picture was captured and then processed within the phone. The Rockies went on to win the game in the bottom of the 9th against the Cardinals.

The Dancers
Photographer: Neil Corman

While driving past the Denver Convention Center and Denver Performing Arts Center it is hard not to miss the sculpture "The Dancers". There is always a mixed reaction to this piece of art. In November 2009 while walking around photographing during a weekend snow I stopped at the piece and wanted to capture an image which would show the piece but also a sense of where it is located. Trying to minimize my tracks in the fresh snow I took a view from a distance and thought minimal colors due to the weather.

Rainbow Curve
Photographer: Neil Corman

In September 2008 while visiting Estes Park, I had planned to photograph around Bear Lake one morning. As the first hints of light appeared I was halfway up Bear Lake Road and realized I would be stuck in the clouds. Quickly thinking of some other options, I decided to risk a risk and change locations. Finding a pullout, I headed back down the road and went up Trail Ridge Road where at tree line I emerged from the clouds. Knowing Rainbow Curve was not too far away I made it to the turnoff with about 10 minutes to spare prior to sunrise.

Change of Seasons
Photographer: Neil Corman

In the fall of 2009, an October snow storm brought close to a foot of snow to Denver. As this was in the middle of fall there were still plenty of leaves on the trees. A tree near the State Capitol was full of color which feel onto the fresh snow and brought the contrast of the seasons into light.
